Old Mountain Bikers

Being on a mountain bike bounding down the hills and struggling to climb up the other side, swathing through the curves and hitting the jumps–just about the greatest thing in the world, right?  Seeing guys in their 20’s and 30’s do this with seemingly no effort at all could make you a little jealous if you’re a more “mature” mountain biker.  The great thing is, though, that you can continue to ride into your 50’s, 60’s and even 70’s! (Maybe even further than that).  Sure, you’re not matching the young guy’s Strava times, but you’re having fun and building an incredible healthy lifestyle base. Go on this journey with us–we’re looking at mountain biking as a lifetime activity.  Welcome aboard–hopefully we’ll see you on the trail.

Why Ride When You’re Old?

Mountain biking, whether you are 20 or 70, is a challenge. And men need challenges. It’s in our DNA. Whether you fight bulls, climb mountains, go into the boxing ring or shred a mountain bike trail, men just need that. We need a dragon to slay, a mission to complete, something to conquer.

Teddy Roosevelt knew what it was to face a challenge and win. “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

So what’s the age limit on being a “doer of deeds”–specifically mountain biking? Is it 40? 60? 80? That’s what we’re going to find out.
